LYDENBURG – Always willing to lend a helping hand, local beauty, Jeanette Kruger-Hibbens recently took part in the Pick n Pay Pink Drive Walk in Hoedspruit’s Wildlife Estate.
Not only did she do her bit for charity, but even her mother, father and sister were willing to take on the 5km challenge through the estate to raise funds for, especially breast cancer awareness.
According to Jeanette, the walk was extremely enjoyable since they had the experience to walk through the wildlife estate. “This is all done as a charity event. We had an incredible time taking on the challenge,” she told the newspaper.
These walks help to raise funds to support free cancer screening and health advice in local communities. The event series was launched in October 2011.
All funds raised go towards the charity. The Pink Drive Educational Mammography Truck was also present on this day to provide free cancer screening and health related information. The event co-sponsors included Cipla, M-Net Cares and PnP4Energi Drink.
The statistics on Breast Cancer in South Africa are a growing concern, and this is mainly due to lack of education and facilities. The need for early detection is enormous, which is why it is so important to keep these trucks on the road. To date these events educated over 30 000 women provided over 19000 self-examinations and provided over 4000 free mammograms.
