Yet again, The Flower Market was voted the city’s favourite supplier of floral arrangements and hampers.
Owners Estelle Potgieter and Thelna Knott say they were pleasantly surprised and overjoyed to receive the Best of Nelspruit Readers’ Choice Award 2013. “We were hopeful, and it is wonderful to know our customers voted for us!” says an excited Thelna and adds that they would like to thank Lowvelders for their continued support over the past 13 years.
These dynamic women at the helm of the thriving business have been friends for more than 20 years and ascribe their success and the continuous growth of the business, to good customer service and the use of quality products. “If we are not 100% happy with any item, it doesn’t go out,” says Thelna.
In recent years, The Flower Market has expanded considerably, and now boasts a shop in Komatipoort and a presence in several supermarkets in and around Nelspruit and Malalane. “We have approximately 180 clients who require weekly bouquets delivered to their premises,” Estelle says.
The spectacular array of blooms and greenery in their flower displays come from all over the world as well as a few local suppliers. A flower buyer sources the best produce at the fresh-flower market in Johannesburg, and stock arrives in Nelspruit daily.
They boast a client list that includes numerous large hotels, and they have ensured a beautifully decorated backdrop for many a Lowveld wedding. Besides this, Nelspruit, White River, Malelane and Komatipoort residents can use their services to have a personalised bouquet or coffee/biltong hamper delivered on special occasions.
Both owners come from a customer-service background and they utilise the experience they gained in this field, plus their love of people, to manage their ever-expanding enterprise. The business currently employs seven florists and two delivery men and women.
Despite their being surrounded by so many pretty blooms, both women say that they share a favourite, namely lisianthus. But all flowers are beautiful to them and Thelna admits that she likes to provide her clients with something new and different to spruce up any office or event, “I always ask the buyer to elect something new, exciting and unusual in the market.”
