Most-elite riders take on challenge

Only the most-elite downhill mountain bikers are invited to the Malalane Toyota Downhill Challenge on November 10.

Located in the surrounding mountains, the route comprises a 300-metre steep and tactical racetrack that offers 16 technical jumps and a wild ride.

Bikers who have raced on this track agree that it could qualify as the most tactical one in South Africa.

Built and designed by Dirk Lourens and Malalane Toyota, it took a year and eight months to complete and cost a substantial amount.

In a bid to involve the community, the downhill challenge was created.

Lourens says, “This is arguably the best downhill racetrack in South Africa and only the best downhill bikers are invited to participate.

“We want to introduce the community to this sport and what it has to offer as there are many talented local riders who need support. It is great fun because of the scoring design.

“These who have received their championship titles and will be among the challengers are Johan Potgieter ( three-times SA champion), Tiaan Odendaal (two-times SA champion) and Stefen Garlicì.”
