Imvunge cultural group celebrates its seventh birthday

Imvunge Ye-Africa cultural group celebrated its seventh birthday on Saturday but this didn’t include presents for itself.

“We identified a needy family of Extension 11 in Emjindini, which is child headed, and donated food parcels and blankets and we cleaned the dilapidated shack,” said Sipho Sengwayo, the group manager.

The two boys Themba Ngomane and Xolani Mavuso heaped praise on Imvunge. “Now we will sleep safe and have food to eat. Many people have been promising to assist us but have not kept their word. We thank Imvunge for coming to our rescue,” said Themba.

“We just knew that some people are less privileged and didn’t have anything so we wanted to give them something, because we didn’t want them unwanted,” said Sengwayo.

Imvunge was established in 2008 and is a non-profit entertainment group. It consists of local youth and its main aim is to develop and showcase the skill and talent of the young people of Umjindi. Every year when it celebrates its birthday it identifies and assists needy people in the community.

“Our purpose is to encourage them to be more involved in positive and productive activities that will prevent them from committing crime, substance abuse and sexual activities,” he added.
