MAGOGENI – On June 9, Mr Mzion Nkosi of Magogeni witnessed a random act of kindness when the executive mayor of Nkomazi, Cllr Thulisile Khoza, donated a 5 000-litre JoJo water tank.
Khoza was visiting the area to investigate allegations after municipal workers were accused on air of selling tank water to community members. When she entered the Nkosi residence, she was shocked to learn that he was permanently disabled. Khoza who was deeply touched by the family’s struggle to acquire water, decided that she would purchase a JoJo water tank for the household, from her own pocket.
It was delivered hours after Khoza had made the purchase telephonically, placed on the premises and filled with water from a municipal water tanker.
“I truly never expected anything of this nature. We honestly would never have been able to afford this with our current budget. With no children to help us, we really needed this tank. Thank you very much mayor Thulisile,” said Nkosi. Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Nkomazi Local Municipality, Mr Cyril Ripinga, has urged the public to assist it in bringing the corrupt municipal water tanker drivers to book.
“Please assist us by reporting incidents where you have been sold water to, or witnessed a sale in progress. We can no longer tolerate these allegations. They are tarnishing the image of the municipality. We acknowledge that there are some challenges with water delivery, and we are working tirelessly towards permanently resolving them.”
