The countdown to the Nkomzazi Science Expo begins
The future scientists will have to prove their worth from there as only the very best 30 projects will advance from there.
MALALANE – The Nkomazi Science Exhibition will be held at Suikerland Secondary School on Saturday, August 16.
Learners from all Nkomazi schools will participate in the prestige event, and it is antcipated that there will be more than 200 quality projects on display.
Secretary of the expo Mr Rajasekharam Pillai says, “There are over 230 schools in Nkomazi, each with hundreds of learners, whose has never been determined and therefore they have missed many opportunities. At this point only 20 per cent of the school participate in the contest. The expo is currently in its primary phase so we encourage all eligible pupils to enter the competition.”
There are various categories such as agricultural, physical science and technology, mathematics and health science, to name but a few.
“Learners from grade 6 to grade 12 will participate but only the 50 best projects stand a chance to proceed to the provincial stage at Penreach, White River on August 30, to compete with other sub-d,stricts.” says Pillai.
In White River the 30 best projects will be chosen to compete at the International Science Fair (ISF) held in Boksburg for four days in October.
“This is a tremendous opportunity, they can win bursaries to top science universities, not just in our country but all over the world. We have sponsors such as Eskom and Intel, not to mention the backing of the education department. We welcome the community to attend the event from 08:00 to 16:00,” says Pillai.
