A resident of Sincobile Village, formerly known as Verulam, found guilty of murder committed a year ago, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Barberton Magistrate’s Court.

Thulani Steven Mnyambo (29) was arrested last June after he had assaulted Elliot Somandla Mnisi (58).

At first Mnyambo was charged with a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,

but the charge was changed to that of murder after Mnisi died at the Barberton General Hospital after being admitted a day before.

According to Const Tutu Nkosi, Barberton police spokesman, Mnisi suffered severe injuries when he was assaulted by Mnyambo.

“After the assault, Mnisi was taken to the Barberton General Hospital by emergency medical services. Upon his arrival, he was admitted to the intensive-care and died the following day.”

Nkosi said following several court appearances while being kept in custody, the Barberton Magistrate’s Court finally found Mnyambo guilty of murder last Tuesday.

He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and is already serving his sentence at the Barberton Correctional Services. The case was investigated by Det Const Tsepho Khumalo.
