Poet surging his way up the ladder of success

Although his passion is writing, he still has an enormous passion for education.

NKOMAZI – When he was a child, pen and paper were his toys. Jabulane Eric Mabaso (28) of Block C near Naas, recently published two anthologies of poetry in the United States of America. Spot On and Through Thick and Thin was published by Author House and Trafford Publishing in May and August.

Jabulane completed his education degree at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) and started teaching high-school mathematics and science at Mambane Secondary School. He started writing at a very young age, but really developed a passion for it in 2005 while he was still studying. “I have a passion for words, but at the same time I have a passion for maths too,” he says. He believes South Africa needs mathematics teachers.

The way people act is what inspires him. His poems relate to ordinary people.

People always told him that he was dreaming too big.

He wanted to publish his books in America, but no one ever believed in him. That experiences sparked Through Thick and Thin. Jabulane never gave up and is now proud to say that he has not only published one, but two books in America. His dream is now a reality.

Although his passion is writing, he still has an enormous passion for education. “When I’m a teacher, I do my best.” Writing comes naturally to him and he believes that nothing is impossible. Jabulane is currently working on a novel, Money the Modern God. This is a subject that lies close to his heart.

“The only reason why we have drug addictions, crime, violence and abuse, is because people are driven by money,” he explains. Jabulane wants to be a best seller in the next five years. He is also working on poems and look forward to publishing many more books. Spot On and Through Thick and Thin is available at Exclusive Books, Kalahari.com and on Amazon, or place an order at
