Buddies come together to celebrate a year of caring

LCB was formed 15 years ago and offers companionship, care and love to older people. The buddies also perform music concerts and other fun activities for the elderly.

WHITE RIVER – The members of Lowveld Care Buddies (LCB) had their year-end function on Friday at Bundu Lodge. They expressed their appreciation towards colleagues for the humanitarian work they offer to the public.

They exchanged gifts and wished one another well for the festive season.

LCB was formed 15 years ago and offers companionship, care and love to older people. The buddies also perform music concerts and other fun activities for the elderly.

According to Yvonne McHeath, a founding member, the buddies meet the elderly on regular basis to offer them love.

“We are well received when we visit them, what we have noticed is that old people expect love and care from those around them,” she said.

McHeath and other founding members saw how lonely old people were and they decided to start the organisation. Lowveld Care Buddies also has branches in Barberton, Hoedspruit, White River and Makhado in Limpopo.

Priscilla Eva, chairman of the Hoedspruit branch of the organisation, said it was very fulfilling to give love to those who need it most. “When you give your time to speak to old people it also changes your life,” she said.

She added that despite having a busy schedule sometimes, she made sure that the buddies in her team visit the aged.

“Some would even complain to us if we skip a day without visiting them,” said Eva.

She mentioned that she had fostered emotional bonds with the people she cared for. “For me these people are like a new family because I have created many memories, love and companionship over the years. They have become part of who I am.”
