Homecoming concert for Karabo
“The opportunity I got from Idols SA is a lifetime one and I want to use it to the fullest to enrich myself and the community as a whole."
MBOMBELA – Celebrations continued well into the night at Mbombela Stadium as scores of Lowvelders converged to see the Idols Season-11 winner.
Mpumalanga-born Karabo Mogane, was well received by family, friends and fans. Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM), the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation hosted the concert to welcome the shining star of the province.
Karabo performed for the first time on local ground since he won season 11 of the competition.
The Mbombela Stadium concert attracted people from as far as Gauteng and Limpopo. The attendants shouted for joy every time his name was mentioned, signalling a great affection for Karabo.
One fan, Mavis Mabunda said she knew from the first time she saw him on the competition that he was winning material.
“There is something different about him. He is a very good singer and never tries to be what he is not. He is so unique,” she said.
Karabo performed alongside the other top finalists in the competition. More intriguing is the fact that the 11th idols winner is very humble.

“I am not the best vocalist in the world but it was the decision of South Africans to put me where I am today. I will forever be grateful for that,” he said.
He added that the competition didn’t only offer him a spot as one of the best vocalists in the country, but also afforded him a new family.

“The love that we share with other contestants is great. We made sure that we leave the competition spirit on the stage and treat each other like brothers and sisters. These people are a new family to me,” he refereed to the 10 top finalists.
His mother, Sylvia Mogane, says were it not for the community, her son wouldn’t have been where he is today and the family was grateful for their support. It’s something Karabo also echoed. “I am thankful to local churches, the local government, and all community members for their support throughout the competition,” he said.

The singer also wants to venture more into the mainstream entertainment industry so that he remains closer to his supporters.
“The opportunity I got from Idols SA is a lifetime one and I want to use it to the fullest to enrich myself and the community as a whole,” he said.
Karabo also plans to reach out to his community by visiting local schools to teach kids about the dangers of alcohol, drugs and the importance of education.
