Luxury suites at Bundu lodge burn down

The building's top level was torched after the fire broke out late this afternoon.

MBOMBELA – The Bundu Lodge hotel burst into flames after it was hit by lightning late this afternoon.

By 20:20, four of the local fire brigade’s trucks were still on the scene, extinguishing the last of the flames that had blazed its way across the top level of the building.  The two lower levels were also affected by the fire.

Fire brigade Captain Petrus Mtiyane said that an official report will be compiled on what had caused the accident.  “I was informed that lighting struck the building during this afternoon’s storm.  Apparently, the lodge’s room 62 had been hit and burst into flames,” he said.  From here, the fire is said to have spread at an alarming speed.

Bundu confirmed that none of their guests were injured by the fire as they’d all evacuated the building within minutes after lightning had struck.
