Local girl needs help to jet off to the States
Noxolo Madonsela needs financial assistance to fund her tertiary education. According to the correspondence sent by the university, her tuition fees are R105 000 for the first of three years of study.
MBOMBELA – A young woman who matriculated from Lowveld High School (LHS) last year, will fly to the United States (US) in June to further her studies.
However, Noxolo Madonsela needs financial assistance to fund her tertiary education. She was admitted for chemical engineering at St Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
Madonsela said she applied to the university because it was a religious institution and her stay would instil discipline in her.
“I am happy to have been admitted based on my academic excellence to study at the university, and I believe I will acquire the sought-after training offered by an overseas institution of higher learning,” she said.
Mr Mashayinkinsela Madonsela, Noxolo’s father, is appealing to the public to help his daughter realise her dream.
He said the family has tried everything in their power to get financial assistance from companies and the government, but to no avail.
“Some companies have promised to look into their budget after which they would back to us, but we are really depending on the public to make her goal of studying abroad become a reality,” he said.
He also described his daughter as a hard-working girl who has always been determined to achieve her goals, against all odds. “I am proud of her, she has worked hard and now she is reaping the fruit,” he said.
Madonsela said although she knew she had applied to study there, when she received the acceptance letter from the institution she could not believe it was indeed directed to her.
“I received the response by email, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read it. I think the excitement will remain in me until I leave for the US in June,” she admitted.
Equally excited about her acceptance are her parents, whom she said were an example that it was possible to achieve anything, as long as one’s eyes were set on the goal.
“My parents motivate me. They come from a poor background and were able to raise my siblings and I with the little that they worked hard for,” said Madonsela.
She added that she will use the knowledge acquired in the US to add a distinct expertise to the chemical engineering sector in South Africa.
Madonsela also added that she would make sure that poor societies also enjoy the service of a learned engineer.
