Ayuda Foundation wants to help jobless youth
During her efforts to help local unemployed youth find jobs, a young woman stumbled upon a career and a new passion.
SCHOEMANSDAL – A young woman is hoping to use her years of experience in the corporate sector to better prepare rural youth for the job market.
Bongelwa Scott moved to Nkomazi in 2015 and realised that there was a gap between what matriculants or job seekers have, and what employers require.

Bongelwa says there are so many options available that job seekers are not aware of. She partnered with people from a variety of sectors and discussed how they could aid job seekers. She had been working on an idea to start a training academy for about four years and when she realised what a big problem unemployment in Nkomazi is, the idea started resonating more with her.
“Many matriculants have bad results and just end up hanging around. I hope to provide them with theoretical, practical and multidimensional training,” Scott says.
Scott has developed modules and programmes and hopes to get them accredited.
The lessons will be interactive, with small groups, to provide quality education to people aged 18 to 35.
She is currently trying to set up everything to start classes, but needs equipment like projectors, computers and a video camera.
Scott hopes to partner with organisations, centres of learning and schools, in order to present the classes at their facilities. She will be working from mobile offices, but hopes to eventually have her own permanent facilities.
She would like to build relationships with recruitment agencies and companies and invite them to participate in the workshops and maybe even offer part-time work to promising candidates. This will help increase their work experience.

Through the foundation she would like to encourage strangers to acknowledge each other’s potential and worth and work together to unleash that potential.
She encourages the community, business and recruitment sector to come forward with their ideas and needs to make the training more effective and relevant.
