Suspect allegedly kills mother over witchcraft

A 26-year -old man is expected to appear in Tonga Magistrate's Court tomorrow for allegedly killing his mother over the Easter weekend.

MBOMBELA – According to Brig Leonard Hlathi, the suspect is alleged to have accused his mother of witchcraft at Mdladla Trust near Malalane on Sunday.

“He then took a pair of scissors and stabbed her. Police and paramedics were called to the scene and upon arrival, the victim was certified dead. Police opened a murder charge against the suspect,” Hlathi said.

Meanwhile,  in another incident on the same day, a 26-year-old man was assaulted to death by three men at Naas, also near Malalane.

It is reported that the three men, aged between 21 and 23, intercepted the victim when he was coming from a tavern in the wee hours and accused him of having robbed them. They then started assaulting him until he died,” Hlathi added.

A case of murder was opened for investigation. All three suspects were arrested and will appear in the same court on the same day.
