Locals spread Easter joy to needy children
Underpriviledged children from Orlando, near Komatipoort, were treated to Easter eggs and other sweets by a group of community members on Good Friday.
KOMATIPOORT – A few locals decided to make Good Friday a special day for Orlando’s underprivileged children by handing out a variety of sweet treats.
Mr Nkosinathi Mamba, organiser of the project, was contacted by Ms Maria Coutinho from Kingsley Cash and Carry, and Ms Sandra Storm from Stoep Café, who wanted to make Good Friday special for 60 of Orlando’s poorest kids.
Mamba spread the news via the community leaders, and from midday on Friday the children, some accompanied by their mothers, arrived at the open area next to the Komati Care Centre and waited expectantly under the shade of a tree.

Mamba, known for the good work he does in the community, arrived with a few helpers to distribute chips, cooldrinks, cupcakes, cookies and Easter eggs.
“What is a Good Friday if we can’t give to others? In Komatipoort, families are together on this day. The poor are scattered on the roads. We wanted to get them together for about an hour in remembrance of what Christ did for us,” Mamba said.
