Three suspects sentenced to time in jail

Two suspects found with dagga were sentenced to imprisonment or fines, while one will serve jail time for attempted murder.

JEPPES REEF – Two men face fines or time in prison after they were found in possession of dagga at the border post last Wednesday morning.

The local police were busy with routine duties when Ermerald Mvelase (25) was found with 1,8 kilograms of dagga and Sandile Khumalo (32) with 2,1 kilograms.

They were arrested and appeared in the Boschfontein Magistrate’s Court.

Mvelase was sentenced on Thursday to 60 days’ imprisonment or a R2 000 fine, while Khumalo received the same jail time or a R2 500 fine.

On the same day Mxolisi Nkosi (27) was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga, after he was found guilty of attempted murder.

The suspect reportedly assaulted a 25-year-old man with a golf club after an argument erupted in the early morning hours of September 20, 2015.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Shongwe Hospital. He was later transferred to Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela for further medical treatment.
