Two die in accidents on the N4 over the weekend

The N4 was very busy over the weekend and several accidents were reported, including two which resulted in deaths.

TENBOSCH – It was a busy and bloody weekend on the N4, with two deaths on Sunday.

The start of the July holidays caused a swell in traffic and, according to TRAC, between 400 and 800 vehicles moved through the Nkomazi Toll Plaza between 13:00 and 18:00.

An accident between Marloth Park and Hectorspruit on Saturday afternoon necessitated a lane closure.

On Sunday, the driver of a sedan was killed when the vehicle overturned near Tenbosch and a pedestrian was hit by a truck at the Lebombo Border Post.

On Monday an accident between the Tenbosch intersection and Marloth Park resulted in lane closures and even a road closure in the early morning hours. At one point motorists were advised to use a detour as the road was closed at Coopersdal. The scene was cleared and the road was only opened at around 10:30.

Motorists are urged to stick to the speed limit, especially during peak hours and in construction areas between Hectorspruit and Komatipoort.

Traffic volumes are expected to pick up again over the weekend of July 21 as school holidays come to an end.
