Still no new members for the Nelspruit CPF
Due to the school holidays and low attendance at the recent Nelspruit CPF meeting, the co-opting of new members had to be postponed
MBOMBELA – No additional executive committee members could be co-opted into the Nelspruit Community Policing Forum (CPF) on Tuesday. It was the third time that too few eligible or willing people attended for the organisation to form a committee.
This week people being out of town for the school holidays was cited as the reason for the poor attendance at the meeting held at Emnotweni. As a result, chairman, Kevin Pillay postponed the co-option to the next meeting – to be held next month.

The current executive committee consists of Pillay and secretary Devon McCullough. John Meintjies resigned shortly after being re-elected as deputy chairman at the annual general meeting (AGM) last month. He cited a conflict of interest as the reason, after he was appointed as a public-relations officer at ACS Security full-time.
As per the rules, employees of security companies and police officers do not have voting rights and cannot stand as ex-officio members of the forum.
Meintjies told Lowvelder he would remain involved in the street committees and subforums. “I don’t need a title to do what I do,” he said. “It frees up my time to actually make a difference.”
The local CPF executive still has three vacancies: deputy chairman, public-relations officer and treasurer. According to the rules, chairmen of the various sectors can be co-opted into the executive committee in the event that the vacancies cannot be filled through an election. The next will be held on August 8 at Emnotweni.
