City condems municipal workers strike
City of Mbombela apologises to residents for any inconvenience caused during yesterday's strike

MBOMBELA – City of Mbombela condemns acts of unprovoked misconduct by its employees. Acting City manager, Neil Diamond, said in a statement.
Workers took to the streets in protest after their demand to meet with Diamond could not be met as the meeting had been unplanned. The workers littered the streets in protest, blocking the entrance of the civic centre.
Those who chose not to participate in the strike were allegedly forced from their work stations.

“A number of internal meetings have been held with employees to resolve issues raised with management after the amalgamation of the two disestablished municipalities of Mbombela and Umjindi,” said Diamond.
Most of the issues centred around the grading of the new entity, the placement process of employees and purported salary disparities of employees performing same duties.
According to Diamond these had been addressed by indicating that most of them could only be addressed after the conclusion of the placement process.

He goes to say that the City of Mbombela wishes to unequivocally apologize to its rate payers and all citizens alike for the disruption of services and the inconvenience caused by these unprecedented actions.
