Trucks impounded over unroadworthy tyres

As part of routine road safety measures, two trucks were recently impounded at the Malelane weighbridge due to the bad condition of several of their tyres.

MALALANE – Two VR cargo trucks were impounded at the Malalane weighbridge last week.

According to spokesman for community safety, security and liaison, Mr Moeti Mmusi, this is part of the department’s traffic-law enforcement and general road safety.

The trucks were discovered to have 10 tyres between them that were not in a good condition.

“They will be impounded until the owners or drivers decide to purchase new tyres for the trucks,” said Mmusi.

“This is in the best interest of the driver and will enable them to drive safely and effectively on the road.”

The impounding comes in the wake of a father and three sons who died in an accident between Hectorspruit and Komatipoort. The car they were driving in collided with a truck.
