So what gives people the inspiration to use the words “no comment” to brush off journalists?

The media strives hard to get the facts and report accurately on any event or situation that arises which is newsworthy. This is sometimes made difficult when people refuse to talk to the journalist.
Here is a quirky account of what gives people the inspiration to use the words “no comment” to brush off journalists.
1. You have watched too many TV shows or movies portraying someone telling the journalist “No comment” . So you think this is cool. This is not cool.

2. You are Brad Pitt and you are brushing off the paparazzi. If you live in Hollywood, it is acceptable.

3. You are a politician who refuses to answer a media query in fear of getting into hot water so you use “No Comment”. This of course does not help in saving face either in the public eye. So chin up and use that mouth.

4. You have just been through an ordeal and do not want to speak to the media. This of course is understandable. However, try to keep in mind that your version can add to the accuracy of a journalist’s story. Take some time, but when you feel ready, contact the journalist to tell your side of the story.

5. You are afraid your boss finds out that you spoke to the media. Well, the media is able to keep a name anonymous if a person fears for their life or it could put their job in jeopardy.

6. You have amnesia and cannot remember what happened so you tell the journalist, “no comment.” This is perfectly acceptable, but hopefully you refer them to someone who can remember what happened.

7. You have just committed a crime and was caught in the act. According to your defense attorney, saying “no comment” should help you not to get into deeper water, but in actual fact, you will be drowning already.
