Robber abandons rape attempt

Three women were recently traumatised after they fell victim to attempted rape or threats of rape. 

MBOMBELA – According to police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius, the most recent incident occurred last Wednesday when a 39-year-old woman from Maggiesdal woke up to find two men breaking into her house.

“She woke up in the early hours of the morning after hearing a noise. She went into the kitchen and found that two unknown males had broken her security gate and door and had entered her home.”

The suspects assaulted the woman leaving her eyes so swollen she could not see.

“The one suspect took her outside to a shack about 100 metres from the main house. Once he was alone with the woman, he tied her up and started pulling his pants and underpants down. The woman begged him not to rape her.”

He left the her and joined his accomplice where they ransacked the house. They took her cellphone, laptop and a television and fled the scene.

The woman managed to untie herself and went into the house to report the robbery.

Bossies Community Justice’s Albert Gryvenstein said they were called to the scene and are busy with the investigation. “We are close to making arrests.”

In another incident, a woman residing on the Uitkyk Road opened a case of sexual assault against her gardener in September.

The gardener and an accomplice returned to the woman’s house two weeks ago.

The men proceeded to steal items from the house. The woman’s maid, who was in the house at the time, reported that the gardener took the house keys and told her he would be back to rape her and the woman.

On Monday night a suspect in the matter was arrested, and will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court today on charges of house robbery and attempted rape.
