UPDATE: Man who crashed and died on N4 was fleeing traffic cops
The traffic intervention unit had tried to stop the speeding man on the N4, who sped off and collided with a truck in front of him
MBOMBELA – A man was tragically killed on the N4 this afternoon after he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled.
The man had been travelling from Mbombela towards Machadodorp. According to Department of Community Safety Security and Liaison (DCSSL) spokesman, Joseph Mabuza, the man had been driving at high speeds.
“The traffic intervention Unit tried to stop him for exceeding the speed limit, instead, he sped off,” said Mabuza.
While officers were in pursuit, he hit the truck that was behind him and lost control of his vehicle.
According to ER24 paramedic Kim Habib, the man was declared dead at the scene.
The accident occurred between Old Joe’s Kaia and the Old Joe monument on Schoemanskloof.
“It looked like a metallic BMW that he was driving. No other vehicles or people were involved.”
