Local talent good for international stage

All six contestants received gold medals.

Contestants who qualified at the Talent Africa regional competition in White River excelled in the nationals at the Roodepoort Theatre.

They achieved their Federation of Performing Arts South Africa (FPASA) provincial colours and obtained several medals.

All six contestants received a gold medal, which qualified them to join the South African team to perform in New York in July.

Abigail Jansen van Vuuren obtained two gold and three silver medals for dance and modelling; Jemma Grace Smuts one gold and three silver for dance, modelling and art; Theo Ngwenya two gold for dance and modelling; Okipilwe Mabusela a gold and two silver for dance and modelling; Nihandri Schutte two gold for drama; and Shane Schoerie two gold and a bronze for drama.

Abigail and Jemma, however, have decided not to go to New York this year, but rather qualify again in 2019, giving them more time to get sponsorships.

Abigail, Jemma, Theo and Okipilwe were also selected to participate in that evening’s showcase performance.

The next Talent Africa regional competition is planned for October in order to qualify for the nationals in April 2019. A pre-audition will be held before the regional competition.
