Military seizing millions in smuggler’s loot on the borders

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has seized over R13 million in smuggled items on the border since the beginning of March.

MBOMBELA – According to provincial spokesman Capt Lwazi Malgas, the infantry battalion situated on the Mozambique and Swaziland borderline under the command of Lt Col Andres Moraka Mataila conducted patrols during that time period.

She said they managed to apprehend 27 vehicles with the value of R9 159 089, dagga with the street value of R1 621 921, contraband items worth around R3 730 370 and one rhino horn with the black market value of around R609 000.

“All successes were valued and verified by South African Revenue Serives.”

She said the defence department was proud of all the soldiers who were making a difference and changes in the country.
