Taekwondo classes now in town
It is more than a method of self-defence, as it develops the mind, body and spirit.
Tae Kwon Do Mpumalanga has opened a new club in White River.
Classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:30 until 19:30 in the civic hall by master Job Jabulani Magagula.
He holds a fourth-degree black belt of Tae Kwon Do International (TAGB), is a fifth-degree black belt master of the American Iron Dragon organisation and is the 2013 Tae Kwon Do International World bronze medallist.
“Our aim is to teach children and adults the martial art of tae kwon do, as it is practiced by millions of people worldwide as a form of physical fitness, self-defence and developing strong character,” he said. “Tae kwon do is an ancient form of unarmed combat practised for many centuries in Korea. It was perfected in its present form by Maj Gen Choi Hong Hi and has been scientifically developed and modernised since its introduction to the world in 1955.”
The term tae kwon do means “the way of hand and a foot” and was designed and developed for soldiers who carry guns in the modern military force in Korea.
He said it is more than a method of self-defence, as it develops the mind, body and spirit.
“In these modern days of violence and intimidation which seem to plague our societies, tae kwon do enables the weak to possess a fine weapon to defend themselves. When strongly applied, it can be dangerous.”
The club holds membership of Tae Kwon Do Mpumalanga, which in turn is a member of Tae Kwon Do International in England under grand master Dave Oliver, who has a ninth-degree black belt.
