Traffic cops recover a stolen truck

The truck was reported stolen in January.

A stolen truck was spotted and retrieved by three officers of the White River Traffic Department last week.

According to traffic supervisor Brilliant Khoza three of the department’s officials were patrolling the road near the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport early on Monday morning when they noticed a truck without number plates.

They made a U-turn and followed it until it took a turn-off and stopped. The driver then approached them with two R100 notes in his hands, which appeared to be an attempt to bribe them.

When they asked him for his licence, however, he ran away.

According to the officials the man was very tall and lean and probably in his late 20s or early 30s.

At the time of going to press, he had not been apprehended yet. They could not find a key in the truck but managed to jump-start it and brought it to the yard in White River.

Khoza said according to SAPS records, the truck was reported stolen in January.

A name of the possible owner had been tracked via Natis and contacted, but had not claimed the vehicle back yet.

Details of the case and truck would now be circulated through official channels to find the owner. It seems that it was originally registered to somebody from Lydenburg.
