Wheelchair brings hope to mother and daughter’s lives

Delcio also received some special food with her monthly medicines from PCA, because she had difficulty swallowing and requires a special diet.

A new life beckons for Delcio Notiso and her mother since a kind donor made it possible for Pediatric Care Africa (PCA) to donate a wheelchair to her.

Delcio is one of about 250 children living with their parents in a squatter camp at Brondal.

She was born with cerebral palsy and is unable to sit, stand, talk or walk.

This new set of wheels will make life for her and her mom much easier, since up to now her mother had to carry her everywhere. It will also enable her to go for her first physiotherapy session soon. There her mom will be taught how to keep her muscles supple and hopefully she will also eventually be able to sit on her own without assistance.

Delcio also received some special food with her monthly medicines from PCA, because she had difficulty swallowing and requires a special diet.

“The person who donated her wheelchair not only improved Delcio’s life, but also gave her mom a break from having to carry her everywhere,” founder of PCA, Dr André Hattingh said. “You are a hero in our as well as Delcio’s eyes.”
