Parkrun plans in final stages
After this meeting the parkrun has to be approved formally and the race will be inaugurated.

KOMATIPOORT – Early sunlight-seeking joggers in and around town have something to look forward to.
The acclaimed international parkrun may soon be an event in Komatipoort.
The Hervormde Kerk in town initiated this event. A few technicalities must still be sorted out, but based on banked interest from the locals, and principle approval by the international organisation, it is a matter of time.
Last week the initiators met with a delegation of the municipality, and were assured that the Department of Community Services of Nkomazi Municipality strongly supports the event.
The next meeting will be held with the department planning and technical and if all boxes can be ticked off, the race will be possible.
After this meeting the parkrun has to be approved formally and the race will be inaugurated.
Komatipoort hope to see visitors participating in this event on a weekly basis. The race track will probably be used daily by locals.
The challenge subsequently was to find a park where the three and five kilometres could be run without crossing any formal roads.
Rachel Makins, well known in her garden service business and who assists the municipal team to keep the parklands clean, Jan Engelbrecht of Fine & Country and Michael Mashinini planned the race in the parklands north of Gilfillan Street up to the Kruger Park fence and back.
This route permits excellent views into the Kruger Park and will be popular for residents as well as visitors, if approved.
“When we started we needed at least20 volunteers, and we have more than that!”
the initiators confirm.
These volunteers include potential event directors, run directors, timekeepers, token handlers, funnel managers, tail walkers and terrain maintenance and development.
People interested in any of these roles should email their name, surname and mobile number to jan@mindmatters.co.za.
The beauty of this run is that it will add value to the town, creating another activity zone, and the event will invite visitors. A rotating roster will be prepared, so that the track can be supported and enjoyed by those involved.
Corridor Gazette will keep our readers informed of progress.
