SAPS tackling crime with 37 arrests over weekend
The Nelspruit police have been actively combating crime, with a number of operations taking place to make criminals pay for their crimes.
MBOMBELA – According to the Nelspruit SAPS spokesman Capt Zandile Gqawa, a number of arrests were made over the past weekend for various offences.
“We can report a total of 37 arrests over the weekend, as police clamp down in an effort to curb the rampant criminal activity in the city centre,” she said.
Of the total arrests, 15 were for public drinking, while five suspects were arrested for drug possession. The cause of arrests varied from shoplifting, road traffic accidents, business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm to theft, common assault, possession of dangerous weapons and stolen property, common assault and fraud.

Gqawa confirmed that similar operations will be conducted by the Nelspruit SAPS and urged Mbombelans to remain vigilant, especially over the December holidays, which normally see a spike in crime.
“We urge the public to keep their eyes and ears open to any criminal activity over the festive season, when there is an increase in opportunistic crimes.
