Christmas gifts – wanted or unwanted…
Christmas is a time of giving but it’s also a time of receiving a lot of items that will never be used or you that you were not expected to be under your Christmas tree.

Colleagues at the Steelburger/Lydenburg News were quite certain what they would like as gifts and what not:
Wanted items:
• Alcohol, I would like alcohol under my tree, because it is this time of year that I am free to enjoy it; also any technology stuff
• A diamond ring or diamond earrings
• Baby products, because my first born is arriving in January 2020
• Aged Jack Daniëls
• A Fit bit watch
• Smoothie maker or a hair straightner
• I would appreciate a braai stand, or whisky or money for petrol to travel a lot during my leave
• A silver chain or diamond ring
• I saw this beautiful ring at AK Jewellers in Lydenburg!!
Not wanted:
• No appliances, or seeds to plant or crackers
• I do not want an empty box
• Beauty products or perfume – it gives me the idea that people think I do not smell good
• No food or clothes
• Please no scarves, or beauty products or hand and body cream
• No baby products
• No perfume, roll on or any other fragrances.. my taste is
not your taste!
• Please not my ouma…
If you received a gift that you really don’t think you’re going to use, use the following tips to get it out of your way.
Swap it:
Swapping is an excellent way to get rid of unwanted gifts. Place a Facebook invite to all who want to join you in a swapping gifts event. You can do it at work involving your colleagues or create a swapping WhatsApp group in your community.
Regift it:
If you do not like the gift, or perhaps already has the same item, try to regift it. This means you can pass your gift on to someone else who will appreciate it. By
doing this you can make somebody else happy.
Refund:
Then there is the option of refunding. Ask the person who gave it to you for the receipt to exchange the gift or one could ask for it to be refunded at the particular store.
Donate it:
You could give your unwanted gifts to a charity organisation or to less privileged people you know.
Sell it:
Think about selling your gifts. Put an advertisement in your local newspaper, on Facebook, on WhatsApp groups in your community or by word of mouth. This will earn you some cash and you could buy
yourself a gift of your choice.
