Limpopo government seeks GBV solutions
Incidents of violence against women and children have spiralled out of control in Limpopo.
This has prompted the provincial legislature to convene a summit in Polokwane to seek solutions to the problem.
There have been numerous incidents in which women and children were raped or killed in the province during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
Members of the Limpopo Legislature interacted with different stakeholders on Tuesday to get possible solutions to the continuing incidents of gender-based violence (GBV).
The Human Rights Commission, South African Council of Churches, and officials from the Department of Social Development, and Transport and Community Safety, made presentations on their bid to clamp down on violence against women and children at the event.
Speaking at the event, MEC Dickson Masemola condemned the recent spate of attacks on women and children. While condemning the social ill, the MEC provided an overarching picture of gender-based violence matters, highlighting how the problem is rooted in society and how the family institution plays a central role in the molding of the kinds of men and women in communities.
“We remain committed 365 days to fight this with the vigour it deserves and ensure multi-sectoral approach in dealing with the phenomenon. Safety and security of women and children is our concern and mandate.”
