Churches take their services to live streaming

Gatherings are temporarily prohibited due to the restrictions implemented nationwide. As a way to reach their congregations, local churches have moved their weekly services to social media.
Rev Fred Wilson, of NG Kerk Lydenburg-Suid, is one of the local ministers who will not let Covid-19 stop him from pursuing his mission of sharing the Word.
According to him, this was the most responsible way to respond to the announcement made by the president.
“On a normal Sunday we are usually more than 200 members, so we could not meet since the restrictions were put in place,” he said.

“During the sermon, we noticed that about 700 people were watching, which means we managed to reach even more people than we usually do. These included people from overseas. We also have a WhatsApp page on which we share links, as per request from the members.”
The church has also provided a sermon for parents to help them explain the current situation to their children.
“My wife, Rev Antoinette Wilson, helps children not to be fearful during this stressful time, because parents are stressed. The kids are unable to understand why the parents are stressed, so these sermons help make things easy,” he explained.

Wilson encouraged the public to hold on to God. “People should remember that they are more than conquerors.”
