The session was held at the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s chamber in Burgersfort earlier today.
Today’s engagement follows last week’s meeting which was held in Jane Furse.
This is done in order to make sure that all Covid-19 regulations in relation to mines are adhered to.
Representatives from the department of health, mine managers and the political leadership of the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) also attended the meeting.
The dignitaries were sanitized at the chamber.
The SDM’s executive mayor Stan Ramaila said, “The influx of mine workers from other provinces into Sekhukhune need to be guarded carefully.
“Otherwise, we will have problems with the spread of this pandemic.
“Ours is to work together, assist each other and make sure that there is 100 percent compliance. The 50 percent workforce and the general compliance are our main interest here.
“The lives of our people are central here. And if we lapse, we might risk infection from the mines cascading to our communities. We can’t allow that to happen while we just look and do nothing. This is an ongoing assignment that all participants committed to undertake.
SDM mayor Stan Ramaila.
Ramaila also urged the mining companies to assist in the donations of food parcels.
“In part, we are here to lobby the mines to contribute immediately towards the food Bank program. We are agreeing that as part of the social responsibility of all the mines towards their communities, donations of food packages should be prioritized.”
