Mental well-being branches out with alternative therapies workshop

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Loreal Nel hosted an alternative therapies workshop at Macama Venue on Saturday morning.

“I want to teach people that there are alternative techniques to help battle everyday problems such as anxiety or depression,”  said Loreal Nel

The workshop featured various practices in different fields. One of these that Nel expands on is emotional freedom technique, or EFT tapping.

“By practising this you change the vibrations in your body to alleviate stress, pain, addiction and depression on an emotional, mental or physical level,” Nel says.

Losing two friends to suicide during the lockdown, showed her that there is not enough emotional and mental support available. “People need to take responsibility for their mental well-being.”

Nel feels that alternative healing practices should be considered as mainstream instead of alternative, so that more people can have access to them. Although this is only the second event of its kind, she is already planning another within the next couple of months.

These workshops are creating awareness for the non-invasive techniques, methods and assistance one can receive when diagnosed with a disorder, disease or health ailment.
