PCA helps with corrective shoes for little girl
Paediatric Care Africa (PCA) has helped give a toddler in Mbombela the chance at normal life after she was born with club foot.
Little Sinenhlanhla Bazile Gama (18 months) recently had corrective surgery on her feet, but needed to be fitted with corrective shoes to prevent a reoccurrence of the abnormality.
Club foot is a congenital abnormality that occurs in infants. The foot will turn inwards or upwards, making it very difficult for the child to walk as they grow older.

PCA secretary, Surika van der Merwe, said Sinenhlanhla’s mother, Nancy Mokoena, approached the organisation about two weeks ago, requesting help with the corrective shoes.
She said Mokoena was very happy with the vital help that was received.

The organisation’s founder, Dr André Hattingh, said Sinenhlanhla had her corrective shoes fitted earlier on Wednesday.
“Our girl wasn’t exactly impressed with Dr Neil Taljaard, the orthotist of Kiaat Private Hospital, while doing the fitting, but she will get used to her very pretty brand-new pair of white shoes soon,” said Hattingh.

Van der Merwe added that Sinehnlanhla would have to sleep with the shoes on, which was why she was not too pleased during the fitting.
“Taljaard spoke to her mother and gave her several tips and tricks to get Sinenhlanhla to keep her shoes on,” she said.

Hatting thanked Taljaard and said, “It is amazing to see that a child has been given a chance at a normal life. Thank you Neil for never complaining when we ask for your help,” Hattingh said.
