Lion interrupts sunset picnic at Londolozi
International guests were in for a surprise when they arrived at their picnic spot only to find a male lion inspecting the set-up.

On a couple’s final night at Londolozi Game Reserve in November 2020, employees decided to make it extra special for them and erected a drinks’ stop.
Granite Camp staff went ahead of the guests to set up the table on the banks of the Sand River.
Before ranger, Chris Taylor and tracker, Euce Madonsela arrived with the couple, they were notified by the team that there was a male lion across the river.
“With the river being relatively wide and quite full of vegetation in that area, it would put the lion at a safe enough distance to view while still on foot… for now,” Taylor said in his blog.
He told the guests that a lion had been found and they raced in that direction, as it slowly made its way closer.
“After a long pause, the lion continued to approach and strolled down into the gully and up onto our side, past our vehicles that we were safely seated in and onward towards the drinks and snacks’ table,” he said.
“With a clear interest in what all this unfamiliar paraphernalia was, the lion inspected the table for a few short moments, sniffing cautiously, then decided to carry on moving downstream.”
The team and couple all sat in the vehicle while Taylor and Madonsela made sure that the animal kept going, and once they were satisfied, everyone enjoyed the drinks and snacks after such special circumstances.
