Taxi owner killed
Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt after two taxi owners were targeted in Barberton yesterday, Thursday February 12.

According to the police, a taxi owner parked his Toyota Quantum at the house of a motor mechanic. When he alighted, an armed man fired a shot at the victim and thereafter fled the scene.
According to Brig Leonard Hlathi, police as well as paramedics, were notified about the incident and upon arrival the victim was certified dead at the scene. A murder case was opened.
The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. Police request Andries Mdluli, whom they believe can be of assistance in this investigation, to contact the investigating officer urgently.
Anyone who may know Mdluli’s whereabouts is requested to contact the police. Meanwhile, in another separate but similar incident, which took place at Barberton on the same evening, a taxi owner’s family came under attack when suspect(s) opened fire on the man’s house.
No one was injured during the incident. Police were informed and a case of attempted murder was opened. Preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect(s) was/were targeting the taxi owner who was not at home at the time of the incident.
