Hlathi said internal investigations are ongoing; however, the captain, who cannot be named until he appears in court, remains at work.
The newspaper had sent a media query to IPID regarding the incident; however, no response had been received by the time of going to press yesterday.
When the incident was first reported, SCMS Training and Operations Nelspruit CEO, Shaun Nieuwenhuizen, who has 24 years experience in the security industry, said not only could the officer have killed or injured himself, but he could have killed a member of the public.
