DA pleads with Premier to address water issues

The Mpumalanga DA has written to the premier with regards to the dilapidated water infrastructure in many municipalities in the province.

Two per cent of all departments’ budgets are reserved for the maintenance of existing infrastructure.

The party has urged Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane to allocate this money to address the old water infrastructure in various municipalities.

The DA pointed out that access to water is crucial in the lives of Mpumalangans as well as for the province’s economy.

“Having a stable access to a water source drives the agricultural sectors, abattoirs, food processing plants and supports heavy industries in our province,” the DA said in a statement.

The old water infrastructure has hampered the distribution of water, which is already hampered by debt owed to external companies.
