Three women killed as bakkie overturns on R40 near Hazyview
The Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Vusi Shongwe, is calling on motorists to obey the rules and drive cautiously as three women died in a crash today.
The incident occurred when a light delivery vehicle overturned on the R40 between Hazyview and Marie at around 08:00. Fourteen more people sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Matikeane and Tintswalo hospitals.
Two people were declared dead on the scene while the third died in hospital.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but indications show that the driver may have lost control before the vehicle overturned.
It is also believed that the people were part of a funeral procession from one of the farming areas when the incident happened.

Shongwe said with increased caution, driving tragedies such as these can be avoidable. He sends condolences to the bereaved families and wishes those who are injured a speedy recovery.
