The MEC for the Department of Education (DoE), Bonakele Majuba, will tomorrow hand over tokens of appreciation to the overall best municipality and overall best learner in the province.

There were 1 458 leaners registered to write the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination; 1 418 wrote and out of those, 1 281 made the grade.

eMakhazeni Local Municipality surpassed all the 17 local municipalities in the province by registering a 88 per cent pass rate in the 2020 NSC examination results.

The spokesperson for the DoE, Jasper Zwane, said, “The leadership of the municipality could not attend the occasion of the announcement of the results, due to attendance limitations imposed by Covid-19 restrictions.” Majuba will also officially hand over a bursary and a brand-new sponsored car to the top learner in the province, Willem Lodewijk Kurpershoek of Hoërskool Middelburg.

“The MEC will hand over the award to the executive mayor of eMakhazeni Local Municipality at the Nkangala District Municipality offices at 11:00 in the presence of delegates,” he explained.

The announcement of the 2020 grade 12 results was held at an event at the Mpumalanga University in February.
