Thea Rix to run for ward councilor
Thea Rix has announced her intention to run for ward councillor with the DA in this year's municipal election.
Rix is perhaps most known as the person behind the Facebook group, Mbombela Electricity, Water Roads and Any Service Delivery Information, where she shares information about the city and surrounding areas’ service delivery. The group has over 20 000 members.
Now she hopes to turn her passion into a career.
“I’ve been doing this for years and now I’d like to be paid for it,” she explained.
Rix has been involved in circulating information related to service delivery since 2007 when her mother was on oxygen.

“It was just when load-shedding started, and because of my mother I had to know when the power would be out, so I became very involved and started sharing my information.”
The DA approached Rix last year to stand for ward councillor. She completed the exams and interviews earlier this year.
“I’m not a politician, I just really believe in service delivery and keeping people informed. Even if you don’t know anything, communicating with people helps put them at ease.”
She is also involved with various local charities, the Nelspruit Concerned Citizens and the Nelspruit CPF.
If she is elected ward councillor, she said she would continue updating people on the Facebook group. She will find out what ward she will be running for in the next few days.
