Record number of tyre flips aids pediatric care organisation’s kids

Multi-record holder Chris Batts broke the world record for the most tyre flips in under three hours in a bid to raise funds for local NPO, Pediatric Care Africa (PCA).

Batts, who now holds 31 world records, managed to flip an 85-kilogram tyre 1 001 times in two hours and 23 minutes in the White River Crossing parking lot on Saturday morning.

He had scores of people from as far as Benoni to support him.

The 62-year-old radio host of Radio Hi 5 Stereo has world records that include the most flips of an 85-kilogram tyre in eight hours, the fastest time to ride a wheelchair for 10 kilometres and the fastest time to pull a car five metres while in a wheelchair.

PCA had a few tents set up at the event, with founder and CEO Dr André Hattingh acting as Batts’ personal cheerleader.

Batts not only completed this momentous feat, he broke the record while barefoot, which is more difficult as bare feet provide less grip than shoes.

PCA members and locals cheered Batts on at the start of the event, with the Cornucopia Riders from Benoni and the Nelspruit Crusaders arriving to support him.

The record-setter was able to complete 505 tyre flips in an hour, and 825 flips in two hours. Twenty-three minutes later he had reached 1 001 flips.

Hattingh said Batts had taken on the record to raise funds for PCA to help provide medical treatment for sick children, to arrange surgeries for kids and to feed a large number of children and parents in the community.
