Penryn pioneers revolutionary system of movement assessment with UK partner

Penryn Preparatory will be partnering with Functional Movement Systems United Kingdom (FMS UK) to introduce a revolutionary system of movement screening and physical well-being for its pupils.

FMS are considered leaders in the world of movement and the Movement Patterns Programme allows Penryn’s physical education department to screen for movement efficiency to ensure pupils have a basic foundation of movement quality.

Functional movement screening is well-known through its use in elite sport. FMS UK have built a programme specifically for schools. Every pupil involved will have a personalised development pathway to support balance, mobility and postural control.

Penryn Preparatory’s deputy headmaster, Matt Reed, stated that the school is delighted to be partnering with FMS as their first South African school, once again showing Penryn’s progressive approach to education.

“Penryn is firmly committed to making sure every child is given the best foundation to succeed, in all aspects of life. Penryn looks forward to this new exciting partnership in our endeavour to continue delivering a world class education.” Peter Bowler, FMS UK’s chief executive, said,

“A child’s ability to move well has a direct correlation to their confidence and association to sport and physical activity. Our mission is to support all children to develop movement habits that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. We are thrilled to be entering into this partnership with Penryn.”
