Lowvelder Entrepreneur of the Week: Peta King-de Wet

This week's Lowvelder Entreprenuer of the Week is Peta King-de Wet, the owner of Blue Pomegranate and organiser of several local markets in the Lowveld.

King-de Wet grew up in the hospitality industry and learned everything she knows about food from her father who was a chef.

She started her delicious jams, marmalades, sauces and more 20 years ago when she bought a jar of marmalade that disappointed her taste buds.

She decided to start making her own and soon she received several requests from people to make more. To this day she still makes the original marmalade and it is still one of her best sellers.

She always had a longing to have her own little deli called the Blue Pomegranate and just over three years ago she took a chance and started making jams and sauces and started attending markets.

She describes her passion by saying, “I love food. I love flavour and I wanted to create products the old-fashioned way and also products that were packed with flavour with no artificial flavouring, colourants and gelatin. It’s just real ingredients”.

Her business is small and she runs the operation from home on their small farm where she harvests all her ingredients. Her husband is very active in the process and everything is made by hand in their farm kitchen.
Covid-19 hit their business hard.

Without the support of the community they have no income. Their business not only benefits them, but also the community. “We get to live and the community gets to taste and eat delicious products,” said King-de Wet.

Support them by ordering some of their delicious products. Orders can be placed by sending Peta a message on 082 331 0712. You can also follow them on Facebook: Facebook/BluePomFood.
