Lowvelder Entrepreneur of the Week: Davina Hoffman

This week's Lowvelder Entrepreneur of the Week is Davina Hoffman, the owner of Recreated Inspirations.

“I started my business during the Covid-19 lockdown,” is not a surprising phrase anymore, and many entrepreneurs use it as an opportunity for them to work on their dream.

It was no different for Davina Hoffman, who started Recreated Inspirations. Hoffman worked in the tourism industry and when the industry was forced to close down in 2020, she had the opportunity to work on her hobbies from home, to develop these into a profitable business.

With a great deal of inspiration from Pinterest, she decided to make practical wooden gifts and toys. “Wood is durable, easy to work with and the options are limitless,” Hoffman said.

She had the vision and knew how to get a project done, but lacked the skills to do the practical woodwork. This is where her husband and father came in. She eventually decided to learn how to use the tools to make the items herself, and once she managed that, she started to receive orders.

Another added element to her business is the crocheted items her mother makes. She explained their collaboration by saying, “My mom concentrates on and runs the crochet side of things, and I concentrate on the wood. Together we are a dream team.”

The support from the community and the word-of-mouth marketing kept her business afloat, and she sincerely hopes this will continue. “The community has not only supported me by buying my products, but by investing in my ideas, and that means just as much as the financial support.”
