The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, monitored the vaccination roll-out at the taxi rank in the City of Mbombela on Friday.

She was accompanied by the provincial and local leadership of the taxi association to monitor the vaccine administrations at the Nelspruit Plaza.

A taxi rank vaccination site had been launched at the Secunda taxi rank in Govan Mbeki Local Municipality on Monday as well.

In her speech, Manzini urged taxi drivers and the community to be vaccinated. “I want the public to know that the third wave is different from the other waves. The current Covid-19 type is much stronger and it would be wise for one to get the jab to help protect oneself. We have seen numbers of people that tested positive for Covid-19 increasing faster than the previous times,” she said.

She also added that the taxi drivers were exposed to the virus due the kind of work they do. “You meet different people on a daily basis, you exchange money with them and this puts you at risk getting the virus,” she explained.

Topstar Taxi Association’s chairperson, John Mavundla, urged local taxi drivers and commuters to get their vaccine just like he did.
