Vaccination roll-outs continue

The roll-out of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and Pfizer vaccinations is currently under way.

As of July 13, 891 new Covid-19 cases in the province were reported. A total of 1 539 deaths were recorded in the province. The roll-out of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and Pfizer vaccinations is currently under way. J&J is administered in a single dose.

The spokesperson for the Department of Health, Dumisani Malamule, said, “As of July 13, 36 145 educators and education employees have received the J&J vaccine, as well as 1 060 SAPS employees.”

Pfizer is administered in two doses.

“In the 60-years-and-above group, 161 262 have received the first jab and 22 587 received the second dose. In the 50-to-59-year group, 15 517 have received the first dose of the vaccine,” Malamule said.

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, will launch vaccination registration for 35- to 49-year-olds in the Electronic Vaccination Data System on July 15 at the eMalahleni taxi rank. Vaccination of this group starts on August 1.

According to Malamule, other sector departments following SAPS employees will include correctional services, social development, home affairs, justice, the National Prosecuting Authority and public agencies.

The province administers vaccines at the following six sites: Rob Ferreira Hospital, Shongwe, Ermelo, Bethal, Middelburg and eMalahleni, including old age homes and outreach points within the catchment areas.
