IN PHOTOS: Elderly treated to love, laughter and shenanigans
It was a morning filled with snacks and shenanigans at Macadamia Care's frail care unit on Friday.

The Care Buddies hosted an intimate little tea party for the residents, and even a clown featured in mix. She even managed to get some people onto their feet and dancing.
The Care Buddies said Friday was the first day that they had been allowed back to visit, and a much-needed social visit it was. When these types of events do not happen, the residents eat alone and do almost everything alone.
Among the elderly tea party attendees were a couple who have been married for about 65 years. Two residents there have also reached the ripe age of 98.

Pre-Covid-19, the Care Buddies had established a knitting group at Macadamia Care, but many members sadly passed away.

After that, there was just no momentum to get the group going again, so they reinvented themselves. From there they started going out to coffee shops.

“We would get them all in cars and take them to a different coffee shop each time. Oh, and they know all the shops in town; what the lemon meringue tastes like, what the carrot cake tastes like, they even said, ‘Oh, we must get the Lowvelder because now we are critics’,” said Tess Lewis, one of the Care Buddies.
When the pandemic came, all outings were no longer possible. In the meantime, they settle for parking lot tea parties and clowns.
